Agência Brasil Brasília – In a public hearing, yesterday (5), before the Senate Economic Affairs Commission, the president of Petrobras (Brazilian Petroleum, S.A.), José Eduardo Dutra, said that Brazil may become self-sufficient in petroleum production next year. Dutra states that the company forecasts a 14.5% increase in production in 2005 in comparison with last year.
Sales rose from US$ 892 million between January and March 2004 to US$ 965 million in the same period this year. In the last twelve months, however, the growth was 24.8%. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco and Algeria were the main importers.
