São Paulo – Contact lenses from the Solótica company are already exported to six Arab countries and the company plans to expand its business even more in the region. Currently, the products from the São Paulo-based company are shipped to Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, United Arab Emirates and Iraq.
“We sell colored and myopia-correction contact lenses. We have two distributors over there, one in Kuwait and the other one in Saudi Arabia. They attend to the other countries [in the region]”, says Martha Toth, responsible for the marketing department at Solótica.
Sales to Arabs began in 2012, when Brazilian distributors started to promote the product abroad. Since then, explains Toth, consumers started to look for the product and the company opened direct sales to Arab distributors. From there, the lenses are resold to physicians and optical retailers.
“They are soft lenses made with hydrogel. It’s a lens a lot more natural than the other ones in the market. When you apply the light-colored lens to a dark eye, it seems like it’s only your own eye. The naturalness is the most distinctive feature of our lenses”, says the executive. Among the most bought colors by the Arabs are hone, yellow-ocre (brown), quartz (bluish) and crystal (which gives a more light-colored look to the eye).
Solótica’s production ranges around 150,000 contact lenses pairs per month, from which 25% is sent abroad. From the total exported, 90% has the Arab market as destination. According to Toth, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates are the countries that buy the most the brand’s lenses. The company exports to 25 countries. Outside the Arab world, the lenses also go to other nations such as Turkey, Iran, Mexico, Colombia, Paraguay and Chile, among others.
The good performance in the Arab countries convinced the company to expand even more in the region. “This year, we will attend for the first time the Vision-X fair, in Dubai. We will present our product as manufacturers and our partners will be there to support us. We hope to strengthen our relationship even more”, says Toth. She also says that the distributor in Kuwait is working to take the brand to the Lebanon, Libya and Egypt markets.
Founded in 1949, Solótica has currently 150 employees.
