São Paulo – This Wednesday (2nd), Dubai Airports has announced the opening of a new wing at Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 03. The facility will receive solely passengers of A380 aircraft, the largest in the world, operated by Emirates Airline. The first flight took place at 2:30 pm today, local time, bound to the United Kingdom’s Heathrow Airport.
The new wing is being opened in phases. Today, only four out of 20 gates began operating. “We believe that this approach of gradual transition will enable us and all our partners to ensure smooth operations and help us to deliver on our customer service commitment,” said Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths in a statement released to the press.
The Airbus A380 has two decks and can carry up to 517 passengers. Once the new wing of Terminal 03 is fully operational, capacity at the Dubai International Airport will increase from 60 million to 75 million passengers per year.
