São Paulo – Female pyjama producer Mixte, headquartered in Jaguará do Sul, Santa Catarina, has created a special collection of pyjamas in Egyptian cotton fibre. The novelty was the company’s largest release last summer. The thread was imported from India by a Mixte partner company and the fabric was weaved in Brazil.
"Egyptian cotton guarantees a softer touch and lighter products, and is therefore excellent for warm seasons, as well as adding value to the end product. Next summer we should produce a line out of Egyptian cotton threads," stated Rafael Marthendal, the financial manager at the company. According to him, the products were very successful among the Mixte clients. "The products were greatly sought by people who already know and prefer the line produced out of bamboo fibre, which is 100% ecological," he added.
According to Marthendal, after a period without selling on the foreign market, Mixte is getting ready to return to exports. "Due to the global crisis, we do not know if this return will be in the short term, but we are greatly interested in returning to exports and to winning more and more clients, also among the Arab nations," he pointed out. The producer exported to Argentina some three years ago.
The company, established five years ago, generates 10 direct jobs at its factory, plus another 10 indirect ones. In Brazil it usually participates in the Lingerie Salon. On the domestic market the organisation sells to multi brand shops, in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia and Goiás.
Autumn-winter collection
The 2009 autumn-winter collection by Mixte, which is already being sold in shops in Brazil, bets on the fashion concept at sleep time. The new pyjamas use and abuse of frills, polo necks with buttons, overlays and hoods. There are also trousers with ties at the waist, leggings, cardigans, handbags, short-sleeved shirts and nightgowns. Sleeveless jerseys are also included in the collection, in several styles.
Following the global tendencies, Mixte creations are betting on fine and discreet details, a cleaner style and more romantic appliqués and vintage style. The colour palette includes petunia (purple), blue, papaya, yellow, caramel and mixed, as well as many stripes (horizontal and vertical) and chequered in all varieties. The products in the new Mixte collection are elaborated out of several kinds of fabrics.
Egyptian cotton
Cotton is a large part of the culture of Egypt. The product started being cultivated in the Arab country in 1821 and had its production process transferred from generation to generation. Called the "white gold", Egyptian cotton, which boomed on the foreign market in 1860, is renowned and used by large global brands like Kenzo and Chanel.
For several years, cotton was considered the king of agriculture and represented the survival of most Egyptian families. It is still the main Egyptian agricultural export product. Egyptian cotton is hand picked and cultivated organically. The length and resistance of the fibre makes it possible to make stronger and more durable fabric. Apart from that, the absorbent characteristic makes the fabric glossier and the colours more resistant.
