São Paulo – Etihad Cargo, division of airline from Abu Dhabi, posted a record of cargo transport between April and May, joining the list of top 10 performing global air cargo operators. The ranking is created by WorldACD, company that supply market data on the sector. Information was released this Tuesday (17th) by the Arab company.
In April, Etihad Cargo transported 44,730 tonnes in cargo, 30% more than in the same month last year. Last month, the company transported 48,869 tonnes, an amount 31% larger than May 2013.
“Moving onto the list of world’s top 10 is a great achievement and our intention is to continue building our business, create value for our partners, and support our customers,” said Kevin Knight, Etihad Airways’ Chief Strategy and Planning Officer, on the release.
According to Knight, the highly positive figures in April and May were driven by a combination of factors, such as better capacity utilisation on routes to and from the Holland, United States and India, more bellyhold capacity to and from Munich, New York and Chengdu (China), enhanced scheduling, optimised connections, and a robust charter business.
“We also improved our global market share by meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers. Looking ahead, our growth projections for the remainder of 2014 are on track,” evaluated the businessman.
Knight also pointed out, that, by the end of the month, the company will receive a new Airbus A330-200 freighter and in the second half of 2014 bellyhold capability will be increased when 10 passenger aircraft are added to the fleet, routes to five new passenger destinations are launched, and frequencies to existing points are increased.
