São Paulo – Gold exports from Peru to the United Arab Emirates totaled USD 233 million in the first six months of 2016, and increase of 155-fold over the same period of last year, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The volume exported went from 42 kg in the first six months of 2015 to more than 7 tons in the same period of this year. As a result, according to WAM, Peru became the fourth largest gold supplier to the UAE, trailing Switzerland, Canada and the United States.
The news agency adds that Peru is the world’s sixth largest gold producer, and the largest in Latin America, and that the metal is the second most exported by the country after copper ore. The data mentioned by WAM was provided by Peru’s Trade and Investment Office in the UAE.
