São Paulo – President Dilma Rousseff said this Monday (18th) that the federal government will launch in June a new phase of the concessions program to the private sector. According to information from Agência Brasil, Dilma signed this Monday the concession contract of the Rio-Niterói bridge and in the ceremony stated that the government expects to achieve the same results in the new round than the ones from the first round, when highways and airports were passed on to the private sector in 2012 and 2013.
“We believe that it [the concessions program] will be as successfull as the first one. This one will be a slightly broader concessions program because it will offer not only highways, but [also] railways, airports, ports and other concessions”, she said.
In the first phase, the government passed on to the private sector 25,000 kilometers of highways, which must reach R$ 32 billion (US$ 10.6 billion) in investments during the contract period. Through the concessions, the government attracts investments from the private sector for the expansion and improvement of the country’s infrastructure.
