São Paulo – The Brazilian Footwear Industry Association (Abicalçados) will present some of the unique features of the United Arab Emirates’ market to Brazilian companies of the sector in the next two weeks. Information and impressions from a prospective mission that visited the Arab country in May will be presented next Monday (22) in Igrejinha, Rio Grande do Sul, 91 km from Porto Alegre, and on August 30 in Franca and Birigui, São Paulo, 398 km and 507 km from São Paulo, respectively.
A similar presentation was held last Wednesday (17) in Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul, 43 km from Porto Alegre. In the lecture, Leonardo Metzger, from Abicalçados’ executive advisory and one of the members of the mission, spoke on the market potential of the UAE for Brazilian footwear, pointing out that the country imported 400 million pairs last year. He also emphasized that the UAE is considered a gateway for the Middle East and that the country re-exports a large part of its imports.
Another member of the mission, Abicalçados’ coordinator of Trade Promotion, Letícia Sperb Masselli, spoke on the diversity of footwear offered in the local retail market. She noted, for instance, that design is more relevant than leather. The coordinator also pointed out the potential for sales of men’s sandals, which, according to her, are highly appreciated there and carry a high added value.
In the mission to the Arab country, which took place from May 22 to 26, there were meetings with local buyers, Public Relations firms and business matchmaking consultants. Based on the results of the trip, the program Brazilian Footwear will hold a VIP Buyer Project in Brazil focusing on the UAE this year still. Matchmaking will be included.
The Brazilian Footwear project is carried out by Abicalçados with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). It aims to promote Brazilian footwear abroad. The United Arab Emirates is currently one of the projects’ focal points, along with the United States, Colombia, China, Russia and Germany.
