Rio de Janeiro – The Minister of Tourism, Walfrido Mares Guia, said today that he is in favor of simplifying procedures for authorizing visas for foreigners, to increase the flow of tourists to Brazil.
According to Mares Guia, it would be ideal for this type of procedure not to exist among countries that maintain fraternal ties of friendship. The Minister gave as an example the case of tourists from the United States, who are required to have visas to enter Brazil.
In his view, if there were no need for visas, the current number of 600 thousand American tourists who visit the country each year would double. Mares Guia participated in the opéning of the 31st Brazilian Congress of Travel Agencies and the 2003 Fair of the Americas, which are being held in the Riocentro.
