São Paulo – This Thursday (08), Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala holding company has completed the buyout of the stake formerly held by Eike Batista’s Grupo EBX in IMX, an entertainment and sports company.
IMX is part of the consortium that manages the Maracanã Stadium, in Rio de Janeiro. According to information from the company’s website, IMX is also active in planning and image management for athletes of the likes of Formula1 driver Felipe Nasr and tennis player Thomas Bellucci, owns the rights to circus group Cirque du Soleil in Brazil, and for the Rock in Rio music festival, among other events.
In a press release, IMX has confirmed the deal and said Mubadala is now its leading stakeholder. The company also reports that the transaction does not affect the schedule of events IMX has already announced.
This is not Eike Batista’s first deal with Mubadala. The Arab country had already invested in EBX and made indirect investments in other companies of the conglomerate, such as the logistics concern LLX. The first deal, however, took place before the Brazilian entrepreneur’s group started falling apart, in the last two years, forcing him to forfeit several of his enterprises.
