São Paulo – One of Rio de Janeiro’s hallmark events, Feira da Providência fair opens on Wednesday (30) at Riocentro for its 56th edition, offering dances, cuisine, handicraft and décor items from Arab countries. Also on sale will be objects from across Brazil and other countries, in an event designed to help disadvantaged communities in Rio.
Organizers are expecting over 100,000 people to attend the fair over five days. They can buy handicraft from Egypt, Morocco, Syria or Tunisia, ceramics from Palestine, and Tunisian perfumes. There will be over 200 exhibitors, including natives from those countries.
Also available will be a food court including Arab options, which are always on high demand from fairgoers. Arab folk and belly dance performances are in the program.
Feira da Providência is sponsored by Banco da Providência, which invests the entire proceedings into social work in 60 communities throughout Rio, creating work and income opportunities.
Tickets are on sale at www.feiradaprovidencia.org.br for BRL 9 (half price) and BRL 18 (full).
