São Paulo – After opening the second unit of its vehicle dismantling center (VDC) in Osasco, São Paulo, in August last year, automaker Stellantis has expanded the initiative to Casablanca, Morocco. The VDC is part of a Stellantis business unit called SUSTAINera, dedicated to promoting the circular economy. Through the VDC, the company will purchase end-of-life vehicles for dismantling, parts resale, and recycling of components that can no longer be used.
According to Stellantis Middle East & Africa Chief Operating Officer Samir Cherfan, the circular economy enables the company to combine industrial performance, customer affordability, and responsible use of resources. The company invested EUR 1.6 million in the venture, aiming to dismantle up to 10,000 vehicles per year sourced from insurers, auctions, and end-of-life vehicle sales channels.
Stellantis owns car brands such as Fiat, Peugeot, Jeep, and Citroën, among others. This is the company’s third VDC unit worldwide. The first was inaugurated in 2024 in Turin, Italy, where Fiat is headquartered. The second was opened in Brazil.
According to Stellantis, more than 840 vehicles have already been dismantled at the Osasco VDC, with over 13,000 parts made available for sale. A total of 490 metric tons of steel and aluminum, 35 ton of plastic, and two ton of copper have been recycled from the dismantled vehicles.
