São Paulo – Container throughput in Morocco’s Port of Tangier reached 1.55 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) in the first half of this year, up 4% from H1 2014. The information was released this Monday (13th) by Tangier Mediterranean Special Agency, the port’s administrator.
Automaker Renault’s proprietary terminal at the port handled 127,000 units, 107,000 of which were made at the Renault plant in Mellousa, Morocco. Vehicle throughput at the terminal was up 35% from H1 2014.
The port’s regular automobile terminal handled 30,000 units in H1 this year, up 20%.
Also in H1, 135,000 road transportation trucks were handled at the port, up 6% from H1 2014.
The port also handled 740,000 passengers, the same as in H1 of last year. Refined oil products shipping amounted to 2 million tons, up 1%.
