São Paulo – The upcoming edition of the Algiers International Fair will run from May 28th to June 2nd this year in the Algerian capital. The multisectorial exhibition is a chance for local and foreign businesses to introduce their products and services in Algeria and nearby countries. This is the expo’s 49th edition and registration is open for companies and organizations looking to exhibit.
Last year, the trade show featured 1,385 exhibitors, according to information from the website of Safex, the Algerian state-run company tasked with organizing the event, and from the Algerian embassy to Brasília.
Roughly 30 countries were represented in 2015 and the expo featured 25 national pavilions, including Turkey, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Japan, China, India, Iran, Malaysia, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Jordan, Palestine, Cuba, Chile, the United States, Senegal, etc.
The event covers industries such as foodstuffs, textiles, furniture and decoration, energy, chemicals and petrochemicals, mechanical, metals, iron and steel, electrical and electronics, machinery and equipment, public works, construction, and building materials.
According to the organizers, the Algerian economy is undergoing a wide shift toward diversification of activities, and the environment is conducive to networking and professional exchange, as well as to potentially fruitful partnerships for Algerian and foreign businesses alike.
Algeria’s economy is primarily oil and gas-based, but the country is striving to diversify its revenue sources. Algeria engages in significant trade with Brazil, selling mostly oil products and buying mostly agricultural commodities.
In January and February this year, goods worth USD 641 million were shipped from Brazil to Algeria. Sugar and maize were the top-selling products. Other items included meats, auto parts, coffee and soya oil. Algeria grossed USD 555 million from exports to Brazil, including oil, gas and fertilizers. Exports from Algeria to Brazil declined, whereas Brazilian sales to Algeria went up.
Brazilian corporations including Minerva, Randon, Grendene, Docol, Tigre, and Andrade Gutierrez have taken part in past editions of the Algiers International Fair. Last year, the expo welcomed 200,000 visitors.
