São Paulo – The Arab market have been importing from Santa Catarina state-based trading company Sapi Foods for eleven years already. The company exports mainly poultry to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait. Now, to expand business, it’s investing in other types of food.
“We’re trying to increase the [sales] volume of eggs and duck meat also, which are items not widely consumed in the region but we’re trying to expand sales”, says Juliana Carneiro, responsible for sales to the Middle East.
These two foods items are sold to Arabs by the trading company but in small volume. Egg is exported to the Middle East and sold in liquid and powder form.
The product is used in the confectionary and industry sector. Sapi also sells beef and a small amount of pork to countries in that region.
Currently, from the 200 to 250 food conteiners shipped by Sapi monthly, 70% goes to Arab countries. Most of its business in the region is done with Saudi Arabia and UAE. Among its clients, wholesalers and industries. Besides the Arab market, Sapi exports to Russia and Asia and Europe countries.
This month, Sapi was one of 72 companies that attended the Brazilian pavilion at Gulfood, the food industry fair held in Dubai. It was the fourth time that the company participated in the event. “The fair was very good. It was worthwhile”, assess Carneiro, adding that she closed new deals with clients from Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain.
The executive also said that she brought back with her several contacts. “We meet new people and we’re doing business”, she says. The majority of clients are interested in poultry.
“For us, it already is an established market”, tells Carneiro. “But there are always new possibilities to grow”, she adds.
