São Paulo – February’s unemployment rate reached 8.2% in six metro regions surveyed by the Monthly Employment Survey, which is done by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics and was released this Wednesday (23). According to the survey, the unemployment rate increased 0.6 percentage point over January and 2.4 percentage points over February of last year.
The survey was done in metro regions of São Paulo, São Paulo; Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro; Salvador, Bahia; Recife, Pernambuco; Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais; and Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. According to data by the IBGE released by Agência Brasil, there were two million unemployed in February, or 565,000 more than in February of last year.
