São Paulo – Aside from the desert, among the major attractions to visitors in Morocco are the wedding ceremonies. Completely different from those carried out in Brazil, the Moroccan wedding parties may last from one to three or even seven days.
For that reason, the ceremonies take place during the summer, so that friends and relatives may travel and stay at the house in which the wedding will take place until the party is over.
The bride and groom do not stay at the party the whole time. They make sporadic appearances in the guest area, stay for a few minutes, as the women dance in front of the couple, and then go back inside the house. It is interesting to note that the bride wears a different gown at each appearance.
The party usually begins late and lasts until the morning of the following day. Dinner is usually served late in the evening, and there is plenty of food and many sweets.
The music is entrusted to traditional groups, with no DJs involved. At the time in which the bride appears, it is up to the women to sing a song, the same one in every ceremony, so that she may be blessed, and that passersby may know that a wedding is taking place.
