São Paulo – Wood pulp exports from Brazil were up 5.3% in the first five months of this year from the comparable period in 2014, to 4.4 million tons, according to data from the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá). The volume of wood panels shipped increased by a much higher rate, at 48.4%, to 236,000 cubic meters. Exports of paper reached 808,000 tons and remained flat compared with January to May 2014.
Revenues from exports of the three product categories reached US$ 3 billion year-to-date through May and were down 2.4% from the comparable period of 2014. Wood pulp production in Brazil reached 6.8% million tons in the first five months of this year, up 4.3%, and paper production remained level with last year, at 4.2 million tons.
