The bank disbursed US$ 4.3 billion in credit for the area over the last 12 months, an increase of 106% over the previous year. In the whole of 2008, disbursements should total US$ 4.7 billion.

This is shown in the National Survey by Household Sampling, disclosed yesterday by the Ipea. According to the study, between 2001 and last year, 13.8 million people changed social class.
This statement was made by the governor of the Brazilian Central Bank, Henrique Meirelles, who guaranteed, in São Paulo, that the country is prepared and can face the current North American crisis.
