São Paulo – Dubai International Airport (DXB) welcomed 6.42 million passengers in October, an increase of 2.7% over the same month of 2015, according to data made public this Thursday (24) by operator Dubai Airports. The information was published by Emirates News Agency (WAM). In September, however, the airport received more than 7 million passengers.
The fastest-growing destinations by region last month were Eastern Europe (25.2%), South America (9.9%), Asia (8.2%) and the Indian Subcontinent (6.7%). India remains the top destination country, followed by United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia.
Among cities, the fastest-growing destinations in October were London; Doha, Qatar; and Mumbai, India. Baku, in Azerbaijan, Amritsar and Calicut, in India, and Cape Town, in South Africa, were the cities that saw the biggest increases in traffic.
The Dubai airport received 35,294 flights last month, an increase of 1.1% over October 2015. The average number of passengers per flight was 191, against 187 in October of last year. The volume of cargo handled was 236,169 tons, an increase of 9.5% in the same comparison.
“Cargo numbers impressed during October with the biggest monthly increase we’ve seen all year. On the passenger side, we remain on track to achieve our forecast for 83 million passengers by year-end. Accordingly, DXB is sure to retain its status as the leading airport worldwide for international passenger traffic,” said Dubai Airports’ CEO Paul Griffiths according to WAM.
From January to October, passenger traffic reached 69.366 million, up 6.8% over the same period of last year. The airport received 347,463 flights, up 3% in the same comparison, with the cargo volume handled at 2,127,589 tons, up 2.8%.
