São Paulo – Expenses of foreign tourists in Brazil in November totalled US$ 469 million, an increase of 5.7% over the same period last year. The value was the historic high for the period since the beginning of the series, in 1969. The figures were disclosed yesterday (17) by the Central Bank.
From January to November, the country economy received US$ 4.78 billion a year in foreign tourist expenses, a reduction of 8.9% over the same period in 2008.
Expenses of Brazilian tourists abroad also presented a reduction. In the first eleven months of this year, expenses totalled US$ 9.68 billion, a reduction of 6.2% over the same period last year.
The Central Bank calculation includes official currency exchanges and expenses on international credit cards.
