Algiers – Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva appealed once again to the rich countries to relate to poverty in the world. According to him, who is on his fifth journey to Africa, the world will only have peace when the poor nations become developed.
Lula stated that it is necessary for the developed countries to reduce the agriculture subsidies to their producers, to increase imports of products from the poorer countries. According to him, this is why Brazil is placing great effort in the Doha Round discussions, which deals with this matter in the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
"We are selling the idea that trade geography of the world needs to be changed to benefit the poorer ones. It is necessary to give a chance to the less developed countries so that we can reduce violence, poverty and terrorism." For Lula, the poor countries have to put pressure on the richer ones, negotiating with their heads up.
The president leaves Algeria this afternoon (09) and follows on to the Benin Republic, in Western Africa.
