São Paulo – Qatar Airways, a state-owned airline based in Doha, Qatar, announced this Monday (28) that it will include Rio de Janeiro among its destinations, plus seven other routes to go along with the other seven previously announced, making it a total of fifteen new places that the company will fly to starting next year.
The date for the first flight to Rio de Janeiro hasn’t been decided yet, but it will be between 2017 and 2018, according to a statement released by the Arab airline. In addition to Rio, other South American city will become a Qatar’s destination: Santiago, Chile.
Canberra, Australia, Dublin, Ireland, Las Vegas, United States, Medan, Indonesia, and Tabuk and Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, were the other destinations announced. Previously, the airline had already included Auckland, New Zealand (set to be the world’s longest flight), Skopje, Macedonia, Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Libreville, Gabon, Nice, France, Chiang Mai, Thailand, and Douala, Cameroon, among its routes.
Rio de Janeiro will be Qatar’s second Brazilian destination, after a direct route from Doha to São Paulo. In South America, the airline also flies to Buenos Aires, Argentina – in this case from the Guarulhos International Airport.
Qatar flies to over 150 destinations worldwide and its fleet includes Boeing 777 and 787 Dreamliner models, plus Airbus aircraft, such as the A350, which it was the first to buy.
