São Paulo – Revenues generated by international tourism reached USD 1.232 trillion last year, an increase of 3.6% over 2014, taking into account exchange rate and inflation variations. The data was released this Friday (6) by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and includes spending on lodging, food and beverages and entertainment.
In addition, tourism also generated more than USD 210 billion with international passenger transportation. With this, figures generated by global tourism and computed as exports totaled more than USD 1.4 trillion, or USD 4 billion per day on average, according to UNWTO. The data reflects the increase in international tourist arrivals in 2015, which reached 1.184 billion, 4.4% more than the previous year.
The higher revenues increased tourism’s share in global exports of goods and services from 6% in 2014 to 7% last year. According to UNWTO, tourism expanded more than the global trade of goods for the fourth consecutive year. As an exports category, the activity stands in third place, trailing fuels and chemical products, and ahead of foodstuff and auto industry.
